Severin Roesen
Little is known about the life of Severin Roesen (1815-1871), German-born painter of still-lifes, who is regarded today as the most famous of all mid-nineteenth century American still-life painters. All of Roesen's known works are still-life paintings of flowers, fruit, or a combination of the two; his pictorial vision was derived ultimately from seventeenth-century Dutch still lifes. Settling in Williamsport, PA, USA, he was at first known only as "the Williamsport painter" until research revealed his identity. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Severin_Roesen |

Arthur Tait
Arthur Fitzwilliam Tait was born 1819 in Liverpool England, where he taught himself to paint by copying works at the Royal Institute in London. With an interest in outdoor sporting art, Tait moved to New York in 1950 to establish a studio. Though he never traveled in to the American West, Tait produced a significant body of work on the theme of the American Frontier. He was popular for his narrative hunting scenes that were reproduced through chromolithographs and Currier and Ives prints. In he time he was one of America's most popular artists. He died in New York in 1905. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arthur_Fitzwilliam_Tait |
